August is drawing to a close. On the roads, the holiday traffic jams begin. For many, it’s the end of summer. But for those in the know, for lovers of Normandy, The best season is only just beginning.
September in the Cotentin region is what they call “Indian summer.” A somewhat magical time, gentler, more intimate. If you’re lucky enough not to be tied to the school calendar, here’s why you should pack your bags for Sainte-Marie-du-Mont now.
The light of painters and photographers
Ask the locals: the light in September on the Baie des Veys is unique. The sun is lower on the horizon, offering spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The marshes begin to take on golden and ochre hues, contrasting with the deep blue of the English Channel. It’s the perfect time for long, contemplative walks on Utah Beach, often deserted at this time of year. It’s a daily, free spectacle that never gets old.
The return of calm and conviviality
The campsite slows down. The hustle and bustle of families gives way to a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a special time for us. Michèle and Lucie. Less rushed during peak season, we have more time to chat with you, share the history of our establishment, or recommend our secret spots for successful shellfish gathering. Here in September, we take the time to enjoy life. It’s the epitome of “slow tourism.”
Great prices (Treat yourself to an upgrade!)
Traveling off-peak is also a smart choice for your budget. From the end of August, we switch to “Low Season” rates. This means that for the price of a bare pitch in July, you might be able to treat yourself to a week in Choose a fully equipped mobile home or try our unusual accommodations ( Coco Sweet or Cabane) .). This is an opportunity to treat yourself to more spacious and comfortable accommodation to enjoy the gently cooling evenings.

All the major sites ( the D-Day Landing Museum , the Cité de la Mer , shops in Sainte-Mère-Église ) are open. The big difference? There is no queue. You visit the museums at your own pace, you can always find a table on a restaurant terrace, and the roads are clear. You have the region almost entirely to yourselves.
